Getting to us from St Ann’s Square

Enter Barton Square at the north west corner of St Ann’s Square and walk straight through the arcade. Two or three minutes.

St Ann’s Square is retail led, so it fills up as the shops get going and peaks around the middle of the day. The arcade opens onto the square and runs through to Deansgate, so it is easy to meet in.

On foot

Two or three minutes. The arcade connects St Ann’s Square through to Deansgate.

By tram

Exchange Square and Market Street are both close. St Peter’s Square is the major interchange.

Parking

Several car parks just off Deansgate around King Street West.

From Piccadilly

About 15 minutes on foot, or a tram to Market Street.

Where to find us

Barton Arcade is your nearer room and it runs the same café menu as the other.

Angel Gardens is the alternative if your day takes you that way. Same menu, different room entirely.

What we actually do

Flat whites and long blacks

Antipodean trained baristas, which is where this whole thing started. Ordered properly and made properly.

Batch brew

When the room is busy and you want coffee now rather than in four minutes.

Plant milks, all of them

Oat, soy, almond and coconut across the whole range, at no extra charge for asking.

Half Dozen Other pastries

Croissants, seasonal danish and whatever the bakers have talked themselves into that morning.

Cake

Baked in our own bakehouse. The main reason some people come in at all.

Something proper if you want it

All day brunch runs alongside the coffee, so a flat white can turn into eggs without much persuasion.

A café you can actually work in

Plug points, decent wifi and nobody hovering to turn your table over at half nine. Order at the counter, find a seat, stay as long as the day needs. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options run right through the menu, plant milks are standard across the coffee range at no surcharge, and Half Dozen Other bakes vegan through the year. Tell us about allergies when you order and we will talk them through properly.

Where Pot Kettle Black started. The coffee is the point, not a sideline to the food.

04

Antipodean trained baristas

That is the whole origin of Pot Kettle Black. The coffee is not an afterthought to the food.

05

Our own bakehouse

Half Dozen Other bakes the pastries and the cake. Ours, not a delivery from somewhere else.

06

Plant milks as standard

Oat, soy, almond and coconut across the whole range, and no surcharge for asking.

07

Somewhere to work

Plug points, decent wifi, and nobody moving you on because you have finished your cup.

08

All day food alongside

A coffee can become brunch without a fuss, because there is no cut off.

09

Vegan and gluten free

Built into the menu rather than bolted on, and we will talk allergies through before you order.

10

Independent, not a chain

Manchester owned and Manchester run, which is increasingly rare on a city centre high street.

11

Walk in

No booking needed for a coffee. For a bigger table it helps to tell us.

12

Two rooms, not one

A Grade II* listed Victorian arcade off Deansgate, and a modern light filled room on the edge of NOMA.
