Angel Gardens
Angel Gardens, 1 Rochdale Road, Manchester M4 4GE
Under ten minutes up Oldham Street. Modern and light filled, and home of the Dirty Benedict.
Piccadilly wakes up before the rest of the city, and so do we. Angel Gardens is under ten minutes up Oldham Street, Barton Arcade about twelve the other way. All day brunch, proper coffee and pastries from our own bakehouse. No breakfast cut off, which helps when your train was the early one.
North up Oldham Street from Piccadilly Gardens, across Great Ancoats Street, and you are on Rochdale Road. Under ten minutes on foot.
Manchester Piccadilly is the busiest way into the city by a distance, with over 27 million entries and exits a year, more than Victoria, Oxford Road and Deansgate combined. That means a lot of people arrive here hungry and in a hurry. If you have twenty minutes before a meeting, we are the walk. Note that Piccadilly Gardens itself is being redeveloped, so the route across it changes as the works move.
Under 10 minutes from Piccadilly Gardens to Angel Gardens. About 12 minutes to Barton Arcade.
Piccadilly Gardens sits on the city centre lines. Shudehill is our nearest stop.
About 12 minutes on foot from Manchester Piccadilly, straight through the Gardens and up Oldham Street.
The Grand car park at Piccadilly Gardens is the closest, though most people arriving here are on a train.
From Piccadilly it is close to a coin toss, so pick on the room rather than the walk.

Barton Arcade, Deansgate, Manchester M3 2BW
About twelve minutes the other way, in the Grade II* listed arcade. Home of the Nduja Eggs.
House cured honey mustard back bacon, poached eggs, hollandaise, on sourdough.
Beef brisket, smoked applewood cheddar fritters and sriracha hollandaise. Angel Gardens only, and not for the faint hearted.
Olde English sausage, streaky smoked bacon, poached eggs and the rest of it. The full plate.
Scrambled tofu, vegan black pudding, smashed avocado. A proper plate, not a side order.
Poached eggs, garlic whipped yoghurt and pistachio dukkah. The one people photograph.
Croissants, seasonal danish and whatever the bakers have talked themselves into that morning.
A full vegan brekkie with scrambled tofu, vegan black pudding and smashed avocado sits on the menu every day, not as a plate with the bacon taken off. Vegetarians get the Spinach and Mushroom Benedict rather than an afterthought, gluten free is built in rather than bolted on, and there are plant milks across the whole coffee range. Tell us about allergies when you order and we will talk them through properly.
Piccadilly is where Manchester arrives. Here is what is a few minutes north of it.
North up Oldham Street from the Gardens and you are at Angel Gardens on Rochdale Road.
We are open and pouring before most of the chains around the station have found their stride.
If your train was delayed and you arrive at eleven, you get exactly the same menu.
We are pouring coffee and plating eggs while most of the city is still queuing for a chain.
No breakfast cut off. If you get here at eleven you get the same menu as the eight o’clock crowd.
Antipodean trained baristas, plant milks across the range, and batch brew when the room gets busy.
Half Dozen Other bakes the pastries. They come from our own team, not a supplier down the road.
A full vegan brekkie on the menu every day, not a plate with the bacon taken off.
Built into the menu rather than bolted on, and we will talk allergies through before you order.
You do not need a reservation for two. For a bigger table it helps.
Plug points, decent wifi and nobody hovering for your table at half nine.
A Grade II* listed Victorian arcade off Deansgate, and a modern light filled room on the edge of NOMA.
Review for Breakfast Manchester - Extremely friendly staff, very welcoming and accommodating. The chef went out of his way to explain the dishes and ensured we had all we needed. Best breakfast in a long time.

If you're Manchester it's a must visit for Breakfast Manchester. Food was lovely, just too much! And the staff were just so friendly, and I mean all of them. We will definitely be returning.

Had a vegan brunch in Manchester at Pot Kettle Black and it was super and it was super. I had scrambled tofu with lots of yummy flavours on a wonderful bread. The staff were very friendly and helpful staff.

We have been written up a fair bit. Here is where, in their words rather than ours.
Not in the Gardens themselves. Our nearest is Pot Kettle Black Angel Gardens on Rochdale Road, under ten minutes up Oldham Street. Barton Arcade on Deansgate is about twelve minutes the other way, so either works from the station.
About twelve minutes on foot. Straight out of the station, through Piccadilly Gardens and up Oldham Street. Piccadilly Gardens is on the city centre tram lines if you would rather ride.
Yes. There is no breakfast cut off, so an eleven o’clock arrival gets the same menu as an eight o’clock one. It is the thing people are most surprised by.
Yes, on every menu, every day. There is a full vegan brekkie rather than a plate with the bacon removed, gluten free is built into the menu, and we have plant milks across the coffee range.
Not for two. Walk in and we will find you a table. For a bigger group, or a weekend morning, booking ahead saves you standing about.
Yes. Plug points, decent wifi and nobody hovering to turn your table over at half nine.
We do. Half Dozen Other is our own bakehouse, so the croissants and danish come from our own bakers rather than a supplier.
Ten minutes from the platform, open early, and serving the same menu all day. Walk in, or book if you are bringing the team.
Enquire nowWe sit a few minutes north of Piccadilly Gardens, so most of the city centre is a walk rather than a journey. Here is roughly how far the rest is from our door.
